Heritales @ SHE – Evora – Portugal (9th of June 2021)

Sociedade Harmonia Eborense & Heritales,  “AWARD CERIMONY OF THE HERITALES 2020 PUBLIC AWARD”

Next June 9th, the Heritales 2020 Public Prize will be awarded at the Sociedade Harmonia Eborense. It will begin with the offerng of the statuette to Isabela Galante. The “Best by audience” award is a sculpture made by the Russian artist Lola Sementsova within the framework of the Ceramics and Glass department of the Universidade das Belas Artes de Lisboa (Vicarte).

It will be followed by the projection of the winning film «Edu´ Active», recorded in five different countries by the Brazilian artist Galante. It focuses on public and private teaching initiatives to change traditional teaching systems. It proposes to rethink the role of the school in the current society and the role of students in the same society, in order to be linked to the new needs of society.

To conclude the session, a debate will take place with the director of this documentary. In this session she brings together science and culture, the entire public is welcome, and especially people with interests in new didactic perspectives, whether for particular reasons as professionals. So, this is the moment to ask the lecturer if he would change anything from the educational centers he attended, and we encourage her to share his perspectives at this meeting sponsored by Heritales, a festival that seeks to promote didactic forms linked to art and interdisciplinary.

About the artists of the Heritales 2020 awards, which were awarded at the ceremony held at the National Museum of Ethnology in Lisbon.

Sociedade Harmonia Eborense & Heritales,  Programa do cine-tertúlia, ciclo: “O património e a cidade”

Created in 1849, the Harmonia Eborense Society becomes a scenario where it projects its own material heritage.
This session opens the cycle “The heritage and the city”, which shows films that use the historical buildings of Évora as a backdrop for their plots, in most cases in an intentional way, as seen in the ones shown here.
In this first session, it is about, on the one hand, the replacement of the film made by Conde, Mabey & Reynolds and on the other hand, it talks about the pieces that derive from the Takis team and also from heritage volunteers.
The shorts will be followed by a conversation about how to disseminate heritage and ways of creating a central role for historic buildings whose social mission linked to sociability seems to be willing to disappear, like this space that welcomes us.
This activity is in line with the ideals of the Heritales project, which proposes to leave the format of the traditional conference existing in the most classic debates, with the intention of placing cultural heritage in the main topic of conversation and the interests of citizens. This cycle revolves around some lesser-known historic spaces in this city that was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site for more than three decades.

Academy Award nominated Tunisian-American director, based in Montréal, Canada. Her work includes both documentary and fiction. Her short films Gods, Weeds and Revolutions (2012) and Born in the Maelstrom (2017), starring Sasha Lane, screened in dozens of national and international festivals. Her academy nominated short Brotherhood (2018) screened at 150+ festivals and won 70 international prizes.
She is co-owner of the Tunisia based production company Instinct Bleu with producer Sarra Ben Hassen.

Khadidiatou Sow (Senegal)

Khadidiatou Sow was born in 1978 in Dakar, Senegal. Graduated from the Fine Arts School of Dakar, she began a career as a painter and created her gallery / studio. In 2004, she decided to work in the cinema industry. She started working as a scriptwriter, costume designer and assistant director. After a training in Paris (Varan Ateliers / 2007), she started directing her first short films. In 2016, One Seat in the Plane was selected at Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival, and won the Best African Short Film Award ex-aequo (AMAA 2017, Nigeria), the Jury Special Mention (Écrans Noirs 2017, Cameroon) and the Jury Mention (Nouakshort Film 2017, Mauritania). With this film, Khadidiatou Sow represented Senegal at Clap Ivoire 2017. She is currently preparing a new series of paintings and drawings.

Lotfi Achour (Tunisy)

Lofti is a Tunisian writer, producer and director for theater and cinema. He is the author of more than 25 theater productions on different stages (London, Paris, Festival In d’Avignon, Tunis, Carthage, Hammamet, Byblos, Kinshasa, Yaoundé…). His last show was co-produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company for the 2012 Olympic Games London. In cinema, he produced three award-winning shorts presented at dozens of festivals, including Père nominated the 2017 Césars and La laine Sur Le Dos in official competition at Cannes in 2016,[ and nominated for the 2017 Academy Awards. In 2016, he directed and produced his first feature film, Demain Dès L’Aube.

Kaouther Ben Hania (Tunisy)

A Tunisian director born in 1977, Kaouther Ben Hania studied at the Tunis School of Arts and Cinema and the Fémis in Paris, before directing her first professional short film, Me, my Sister and the Thing (“Moi, ma sœur et la chose”), in 2006. That same year she also joined the Al Jazeera Documentary team, where she worked for one year. After directing a second short film (Wooden Hand (“Peau de colle”), 2013), two documentaries (Imams Go to School (“Les imams vont à l’école”) , 2010; Zaineb Hates the Snow (“Zaineb takrahou ethelj”), 2016) and a docu-fiction (The Blade of Tunis (“Le challat de Tunis”), 2014), Kaouther Ben Hania directed her first fiction feature film, Beauty and the Dogs (“Aala Kaf Ifrit”), which was shown at numerous festivals, including the Cannes Film Festival in 2017.

Cinema e Resistência

The CineClube & Municipal Theater of Montemor-o-Novo in partnership with the Festival Heritales, are joining once again for the event Cinema e Resistência at the  auditory of the Biblioteca Municipal Almeida Faria in Montemor-o-Novo (Portugal).

The Montemor-o-Novo Municipal Cineclub & Film Library, in partnership with the Almeida Faria Municipal Library Reading Club, promotes literary journeys and a film cycle on the theme of resistance.

The Cinema and Resistance cycle intends to contribute to launch the debate about the relations between the act of making cinema and the act of resist. The resistance to Status Quo, the resistance of the black woman and the representativeness of the Blacks, The resistance and the body or the memory and the Resistance. Resist making cinema as a way to fight for the rights of the oppressed, the discriminated or for denouncing and combating racism. These are just some of the aspects to be addressed by programming the CINEMA AND RESISTANCE Cycle.

Barbara Cunha

Barbara Cunha holds a Design and postgraduated in Studies of Image and Contemporary Culture. She began her career in cinema in 2000 and in 2007 she founded the 99 Produções with the aim of producing audiovisual works and art visual work that have technical and artistic quality for the national and international markets. Her company works with international co-productions, we aim to fully involve the participating countries not only focusing on the financial support, but also in the artistic and technical collaborations between the partners. She is currently directing 2 documentaries and developing a feature fiction film. In visual arts, she uses the photography as her main platform. Most of her personal projects deals with the feminine, the body image its transformations, achievements, limitations, fears, scars. Speaks french, english and spanish, beside portuguese, her first language.

Tempestades Ensaio  de Um Ensaio

A documentary essay about text
that penetrates lives and lives that penetrate text.
In September 2015 the GRIOT theater – a company in Lisbon, whose actors are mostly afro-descendants – started the rehearsal of The Tempest, original title) with acclaimed director Bruno Bravo in a small coastal village. Starting with the first rehearsals the movie explores the text Shakespeare and the biography of the actors, the play and the landscape and covers topics such as memory, home, emigration, colonialism and resistance. A complex mosaic of multiple voices.

Uli Decker

Uli Decker was born in the Mountains of South Bavaria in Germany. She had a great interest in story telling from a very young age and a love for theatre, performance and fotography. After having spent a year living with farmers in the Amazon forest of Brazil, she studied Spanish & Portuguese Literature and Theatre & Film Studies at King’s College London, Humboldt-Universität Berlin and Universidad Complutense Madrid.
She travelled extensively to different countries and that way learned most Roman languages. Accompanying her studies she worked as a freelance journalist, actress, assistent director in theatres and film productions and started to make her own films. In order to specialize on documentary filmmaking she got her Masters Degree in Creative Documentary from Universidad Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona and her specialization as a Camera Woman from Film Arche Berlin.
She lives in Berlin and works as a camera woman and filmmaker for video clips and documentaries and founded ulises films in 2012.
