Heritales promotes @ University of Évora – Portugal (17th-18th of March 2026)

Heritales at the University of Évora promotes International Seminar Women in Focus: from narrative to the representation in the language, art, heritage and the digital world. 

The Ponte Cultural-BRIDGES project, in conjunction with GabIgual at the University of Évora, is promoting a seminar alluding to Women’s Month, entitled “Women in Focus: from narrative to representation in language, art, heritage, and the digital world.” It will take place on March 17th and 18th, in both in-person and online formats.

It begins on the afternoon of the 17th, at the Colégio do Espirito Santo (CES Anfit. 131). We will share with the academic community some of the activities carried out at the University of Évora in the context of gender equality. After a lecture on inclusive language for women, there will be a round table discussion with the participation of several university leaders, with a view to proposing more inclusive communication strategies that promote the visibility of women, in a proposal aligned with European regulations.

Heritales @ Convento dos Remedios – Évora – Portugal (17th of July 2025)

Heritales in the Covento Dos Remedios,  “Cinema no Convento”

The initiative “Cinema no Convento” this year with Technology and Humnity
a proposal of the Resource Center for Intangible Cultural Heritage – PCI, started in 2019 by the Resource Center of the PCI with the collaboration of the International Heritage Film Festival – “HERITALES” with the aim of raising awareness the space and work of the Resource Center as well as its content developed in cinema.

This year’s theme is “Technology and Humanity,” inviting us to reflect on the complex relationship between technology and the human condition.
In this film series, we propose a journey through works that discuss topics such as artificial intelligence, robotics, digital ethics, and, in particular, the intersection between technology and intangible cultural heritage. How are technological innovations shaping the transmission, preservation, and reinvention of traditions? We invite you to reflect.

This film portrays the contrast between natural life forms, cultural constructions, and the ways of scientifically recovering, with new technologies, the identities of communities that lack written historical records. A scientific expedition from the University of Zurich travels to southern Chile, uncovering the history of the Mapuche community and their life records, searching in virtually unconnected places where technology has not yet reached. The film raises several questions about ethics, the information obtained through new technologies, and their potential political and malicious use. At the same time, it reveals the possibilities of innovation in finding identity groups that struggle for survival by learning small, still-living pieces of culture, such as the language of their ancestors, Mapudungun.

Heritales @ European Archeological Days (13th of June 2025)

The whole world of the past, alongside you in the present: the knowledge of tapestries, architecture and education

The Heritales Heritage Festival aims to share scientific knowledge with the public through cinema. In collaboration with the Pinto Monteiro Archaeology Laboratory (University of Évora), they present a series of films and debates that highlight both material and immaterial knowledge essential for the sustainable maintenance of communities. We invite participants to explore and share the world through the perspectives of the people who continue to inhabit it. They emphasize the importance of enjoying a rich Heritage, recognizing the influence of other cultures on our own, and highlighting the ongoing preservation of technical knowledge originating from Middle Eastern cultures.

Heritales Awards – Almada-Portugal (5th, 6th,7th and 8th of June 2025)

Awards Ceremony 2024-25, Films Screening and music

Heritales celebrates the awards ceremony of the 2024 competition. We would like to invite you all to a four nights celebration of films about “The Role Peace for Sustainable Communities”. The event will take place in various locations in the municipality of Almada-Portugal  (please see below)

This year we are going to explore amazing work from all over the world that present peace and the effect of conflict and war on sustainable communities, inline with the UNESCO Chair of Education for Global Peace and Sustainability.

We are also trilled to announce that we have partnership with the APCAlmada, which will give us the opportunity to celebrate local traditions trough dance and music. Please come and enjoy these free documentary cinema and other incredible activities with us!

Heritales Trophies’ Closing Exhibition

In each edition, the festival produces an exhibition of trophies followed by the awards ceremony, with the presence of master’s students and winning authors of the competition. Due to the SARs-Covid confinement period. some of the trophies did not reach the respective authors awarded at the awards ceremony. This is the time to showcase some of the trophies that span the years between 2021-24 and that host this edition.

The exhibition Heritage is Here! presents a variety of creative solutions for designing the different prize categories and different the material possibilities used in the making process. The trophies respect the care of heritage in a broad sense. Predominantly in glass and ceramics. share a love for our community world, empathetic, ecological and sustainable, which we believe truly exists out there and in some way in each of us.

Heritales @ SHE – Evora – Portugal (9th of June 2021)

Sociedade Harmonia Eborense & Heritales,  “AWARD CERIMONY OF THE HERITALES 2020 PUBLIC AWARD”

Next June 9th, the Heritales 2020 Public Prize will be awarded at the Sociedade Harmonia Eborense. It will begin with the offerng of the statuette to Isabela Galante. The “Best by audience” award is a sculpture made by the Russian artist Lola Sementsova within the framework of the Ceramics and Glass department of the Universidade das Belas Artes de Lisboa (Vicarte).

It will be followed by the projection of the winning film «Edu´ Active», recorded in five different countries by the Brazilian artist Galante. It focuses on public and private teaching initiatives to change traditional teaching systems. It proposes to rethink the role of the school in the current society and the role of students in the same society, in order to be linked to the new needs of society.

To conclude the session, a debate will take place with the director of this documentary. In this session she brings together science and culture, the entire public is welcome, and especially people with interests in new didactic perspectives, whether for particular reasons as professionals. So, this is the moment to ask the lecturer if he would change anything from the educational centers he attended, and we encourage her to share his perspectives at this meeting sponsored by Heritales, a festival that seeks to promote didactic forms linked to art and interdisciplinary.

About the artists of the Heritales 2020 awards, which were awarded at the ceremony held at the National Museum of Ethnology in Lisbon.

Heritales @ SHE – Evora – Portugal (19th of April 2021)

Sociedade Harmonia Eborense & Heritales,  “European day of monuments and sites – ICOMOS”

Centennial associations are spaces of collective heritage with an uncertain horizon. What was the social function they played that made them indispensable in the past? What role can they play in the future? These issues will be addressed through the case of Sociedade Harmonia Eborense.

Researcher María Zozaya will reveal the forms of sociability developed at SHE since its creation in 1849. It will show the functionality that has made these associations essential in the past. To get to the present, she will recall some of the activities carried out at SHE between 2010 and 2021. These examples serve as a motto for the debate on the complex future of this type of association.

The Association’s Governing Bodies: the board and the general assembly will be invited to speak. These, closer to the difficulties that plague the association, will talk about the problems that make up the “complex future” for life in these types of institutions. In addition there will present be the current associated members, who with their contribution enrich an important debate on the survival of these collective forces of society.

On the International Day of Monuments and Sites, historical associations are the center of attention of the Heritales heritage festival, which promotes a trip to the past (with historian María Zozaya-Montes) and to the present and future (with the daily protagonists of the Harmony Society) Eborense). Meeting and debate with the partners and the direction of the Sociedade Harmonia.

This event is part of the Heritales heritage festival, with the support of the ESACH Évora group, «Tardes Cinéfilas», with the new association «Alentejo, Terras e Gentes«, with the guidelines for sustainable Crowd-Recycling events, and with the support the cultural association Espacio C, which also organized several events promoting the rescue of local heritage.
