Heritales @ University of Évora – Portugal (10th of December 2025)

Heritales at the University of Évora

Migration, Human Rights and the (re)construction of society. Cinema to reclaim human rights. HUMANIZA in Évora.

Several festivals and film forums in Portugal are joining forces to celebrate the Humaniza film festival, dedicated to migration. They will present various films on the day that commemorates Human Rights, December 10th. Several areas are priorities in the defense of human rights, which are present in the problems highlighted by the UN Sustainable Development Goals. One of the great challenges of current societies is migration and the refugee issue (2). For this reason, several film festivals, following the invitation of Cristiano Gianolla and his Co3-Horizon project (University of Coimbra), have joined the initiative to hold a film festival simultaneously in several cities in Portugal, being themselves responsible for the programming. Thus, the organizations “Espalhafitas- Cineclube de Abrantes”, “Grande Coisa!”, Heritales- International Heritage Film Festival and Cineclube Faro, join the CO3 project led by the University of Coimbra to address migration, an objective that is being defined by the international political environment.

The screening will be followed by an debate at the so called open classroom session, led by Mafalda Soares da Cunha, head of the Public History department at the University of Évora, along with María Zozaya from CIDEHUS-UÉ serving as mediators. Heritales @ JEP (European Heritage Days) – Bota Rasa – Évora – Portugal (18th of September 2025)

European Heritages Days (Architecture) 2025 at Sociedade União Eborense

“The Natural Heritage in the Amazon. Where natural architectures, archaeology, and material culture are doors to the indigenous communities’ future.

This session will present a film and a debate that highlight the architectures of nature shaped by indigenous communities. The film explores the natural architecture of the indigenous peoples of Amazonas, the archaeology and methods for examining their past. By excavating the vestiges that can ensure their future. In many communities, the labour of the archaeologists is to show that those ancestral communities have belonged to those places for many centuries, which is essential to ensure their presence in the future, by doing (or respecting) laws that recognise them, their existence, and their territory. We invite participants to explore and share the world through the perspectives of the people who continue to inhabit it.
With this session, The Heritales festival aims to reveal ways of life that highlight the relationship between natural monuments, architecture, and nature. According to ancestral cosmogony, indigenous peoples believe that they belong to the land, in contrast to the perspective promoted by so-called “Western Civilizations,” which holds that the land belongs to people

This will be the theme of the debate associated with the Europan Heritage Days.
