Synopsis: Josep and Montserrat are the bell ringers from the Parish of Sant Esteve de Granollers de la Plana (Gurb, Catalonia). The film reflects their dedication, the love they feel for the language of bells and their effort to preserve it as a vital part of the identity of their community.
From ancient times, the landscapes of our land have been marked by the sound of bells. In a context prior to today’s mass media, this communication medium was frequently the only way to spread essential information to the inhabitants of a distant community. Bells played a special role in religious life, marking the festivities and the most important moments of liturgical events. Beyond that, however, they also marked the passing of life, social events, and were a point of reference in moments of emergency. Nowadays, many of these uses and traditions are in danger of being lost
