The FMP Cultural Center – Fernão Mendes Pinto aims to gather, document, conserve, exhibit, present and disseminate activities in various cultural and artistic areas, linked to cultural memory, visual arts, music, theater, dance, literature, audiovisual and performances, as well as carrying out other cultural and artistic activities based on the city of Almada and its specificities, whilst remaining receptive and intervening with regard to national and international achievements that are in line with the purposes that guide it: to constitute itself in all its initiatives as an active meeting point for cultures and promotions of interculturalism.
Located in Pragal, the FMP Cultural Center (Fernão Mendes Pinto) was created from an initiative of AMAI – Almada Mundo Associação Internacional, with the immediate support of the UNIÃO DAS FREGUESIAS Almada, Cova da Piedade, Pragal and Cacilhas, and the Secondary School Fernão Mendes Pinto, carrying out major renovations to the physical facilities of an old multipurpose space in Pragal, located in Travessa dos Moinhos, in that location, a space rehabilitated and later reopened with a new conception of its use as a cultural facility.
