Cinema in the Casino

This Saturday we are projecting some of the animations of our past editions. Come and join us at the Recreios Desportivos da Trafaria in collaboration with Canto do Curió .
Free animated movie session for children and families.
This session is part of the monthly Film Cycle at Recreios Desportivos da Trafaria
The films to be shown are animated shorts that participated in this film festival. They are: Alda, Florigami, Fontes Renováveis, Four Fold, I am Tree, Land without evil, Names of the Months, Papital, The Myth of Tsou, Wild as raspberry, Zeed sprouting
This session is promoted by the Commission of Residents of the Neighborhoods Madame Faber and 1.º Torrão e Canto do Curió Cultural Association, with support from the National Program Healthy Neighborhoods and the Union of Parishes of Caparica and Trafaria.

Cinema in the Casino

Heritales starts the new year with a new appointment of the “Cinema in the Casino” with  an event in collaboration between various local associations. It will to bring you an amazing documentary projected in our first edition of the festival.

The result of more than 100 interviews and 250 hours of filming, the Documentary “Mar de Sines” is a film project centered in the perpetual connection of the local community of Sines with the sea.It assembles the testimonies of three generations of fishermen exposed to the rough temper of the of Portuguese south-west sea. Their knowledge of what the sea offers and claims in return.The Sines community is a melting pot of cultures, nationalities and generations and the perfect set to find the protagonists of a traditional kind of fishing that still respects the natural resources as part of an ancestral legacy. The film portraits the fishing harbor of Sines and its people and travels along to meet the territory of the last fishermen using the raft of “São Torpes”, the landscape of the shellfish gatherers that inhabit the rocky cliffs, and reality of the high-sea fishermen.
Directed by Diogo Vilhena, produced and assisted by António Campos, “Mar de Sines” strives to combine an historical and ethnographical perspective with an aesthetical approach. The original soundtrack was composed by Charlie Mancini and had the collaboration of several local musicians. The script’s structure was based on the work of Francisco Luís Lopes, “Breve Notícia de Sines” and depicts a resilient community that continues to live from the sea activity.

Heritales open a new cinema cicle in the Casino da Trafaria, for the first appointmet we will project the work of our awarded director João Meirinhos. An amazing night with  3 documentaries that will take us to the magic land of Alentejo (Portugal).

Transmutation – The beat of the past looms  seeks to trigger social awareness regarding the disappearance of hand weaving in the Alentejo region of Portugal. It also serves as a portrait about the last weavers still working today using experimental methods of film making, sound composition and ethnographic storytelling.

At the village of Barradas, on the edge between the Portuguese regions of Alentejo and Algarve, we found Dona Violante’s peculiar museum of arts, crafts and awe. A simple conversation that gained wings and touched so many relevant subjects about the overwhelming pace of nowadays.

I’m Burning

Renaissance, a challenge. The artistic project of the Valencian creators Miguel Arraiz and David Moreno, will cross the Atlantic to establish synergies with the most important ephemeral art event in the world, the Burning Man in the Nevada desert.

Andreu Signes Pérez

Andreu Signes holds a degree in Audiovisual Communication. He began his professional career in RTVV (Radio Televisión Valenciana) in different programs such as Tela Marinera, Fem Tele, Tómbola, Colp d’ull, sports and cultural broadcasts, work that he combined with graphic work in different art departments for films. Creator of the graphic design studio Aptitude Lab, specialized in web works and interactive video design, where he worked for 5 years.
Later he joined the team of the virtual studio of RTVV, where he worked for two and a half years, coordinating the team and directing the continuity of the channel 24/9 broadcast (24-hour news). During those years, he combines work with the direction of photography of short films and documentaries, some of which have been awarded at the Mostra de València. In 2011 he joined the audiovisual production company Barret as a member, and that is when he began his career as a producer, graphic designer and camera for transmedia documentaries for television and the internet, such as “Les Veus de la Memoria” on the effect of music therapy in Alzheimer’s patients that was broadcast on Documentos TV, interactive RTVE and RTVV; or the webdoc “catacombes.com”, an interactive documentary that explores the other side of Paris in the underground 30 meters below ground. He has also directed and produced the documentary for TV3, #NosaltresElsValencians, the television program “Un Pais de Llibre” and has worked as an art, graphics and camera director in the two seasons of the TV3 program, “Cosins Germans”. He also designed the webdoc “0responsables.com” and produced the documentary about the València subway accident in 2006, “La estrategia del silencio” He currently works as an interactive video designer at the Valencian startup PlayFilm, developing an advanced technology program for the creation of interactive videos. His last documentary work “I’m burning”. A personal project in which he has recorded for three years the project of artists Miguel Arraiz and David Moreno

Heritales at the Residências Refúgio Festival

On Friday night at the Residências Refúgio festival, Heritales will once again propose the film Migrante, winner of the animation category with presentation of the award at the Monstra 2020 Festival. “MIGRANT” is an animated short film with a powerful message in favor of migration , built from real testimonies that were animated by more than 50 animators from 11 Latin American countries and produced by ANIMA LATINA. Each of the 30 segments that make up the short film is brought to the screen through the unique style of each animator. Latin American cultural diversity will be represented through the heterogeneity of proposals, transforming “Migrant” into a true animated mosaic.

Following the success of the last edition of the festival even with a reduced accessibility due to the pandemic situation, Heritales re-propose an amazing film which was projected during last edition of the festival.

Brazilian Palestine is a documentary that shows the communities born of the nakba – the Arabic word whose meaning is catastrophe or disaster – seek, in the diaspora, full integration and a new citizenship in Brazil.

Heritales @ The Night of Researchers – Evora – Portugal (24th of September 2021)

The Night of Researchers

Heritales will screen the short animations ‘I am a tree’ and  I am not Alice’, as well as the movie ‘Swamp Dialogue’, in order to raise awareness of the urgency of preventing climate change. At the end of the sessions, there will be a debate with scientists who are investigating the protection of the cultural world and the natural world, ecological and social elements linked to sustainability for the prevention of climate change.

Heritales @ Convento dos Remedios – Evora – Portugal (22nd of July 2021)

Covento Dos Remedios & Heritales,  “Cinema no Convento”

The initiative “Cinema no Convento” is a proposal of the Resource Center for Intangible Cultural Heritage – PCI, started in 2019 by the Resource Center of the PCI with the collaboration of the Itinerant Film Festival – “HERITALES” with the aim of raising awareness the space and work of the Resource Center as well as its content developed in cinema.
It is the articulation between the work developed by the PCI Resource Center and the Cultural Animation that gives meaning to the objective of the Center that does not exist without the direct involvement of the population.
Cinema no Convento`21 under the title “Stories and Tales in Cinema”, aims to show the cinematographic perspective of traditional tales, as well as to bring the population closer to the PCI Resource Center space and its work.

Heritales @ SHE – Evora – Portugal (9th of June 2021)

Sociedade Harmonia Eborense & Heritales,  “AWARD CERIMONY OF THE HERITALES 2020 PUBLIC AWARD”

Next June 9th, the Heritales 2020 Public Prize will be awarded at the Sociedade Harmonia Eborense. It will begin with the offerng of the statuette to Isabela Galante. The “Best by audience” award is a sculpture made by the Russian artist Lola Sementsova within the framework of the Ceramics and Glass department of the Universidade das Belas Artes de Lisboa (Vicarte).

It will be followed by the projection of the winning film «Edu´ Active», recorded in five different countries by the Brazilian artist Galante. It focuses on public and private teaching initiatives to change traditional teaching systems. It proposes to rethink the role of the school in the current society and the role of students in the same society, in order to be linked to the new needs of society.

To conclude the session, a debate will take place with the director of this documentary. In this session she brings together science and culture, the entire public is welcome, and especially people with interests in new didactic perspectives, whether for particular reasons as professionals. So, this is the moment to ask the lecturer if he would change anything from the educational centers he attended, and we encourage her to share his perspectives at this meeting sponsored by Heritales, a festival that seeks to promote didactic forms linked to art and interdisciplinary.

About the artists of the Heritales 2020 awards, which were awarded at the ceremony held at the National Museum of Ethnology in Lisbon.
