Waking Life Festival – Crato – Portugal


“Waking Life is a midsummer festival and a year-round playground for creation and experimentation. It sprouted from a common dream of a group of friends to build a community, in a sunny spot on the globe, to plant ideas and harvest tangible, alternative ways of living, learning, loving. It is slowly blooming into a space for artistic experimentation, spirited self-expression and collective imagineering of the type of society we could cultivate if there was freedom to diverge from default reality.

Speaking of default reality, on the admin side of things, Waking Life is a not-for-profit association registered in Portugal, largely operating on a voluntary basis. While our yearly gathering in June has been the cornerstone project to date, Waking Life is more than the festival — it’s a multidimensional community project, with budding cultural, countercultural and agricultural initiatives.”

Secondary School Fernão Mendes Pinto – Almada – Portugal


“The Fernão Mendes Pinto Secondary School represents a continuation of the Almada Section of the Liceu D. João de Castro, created in 1965, which would give rise to the Liceu Nacional de Almada, autonomous from the 1972/73 school year onwards. The facilities were located in the city center, in Praça S. João Baptista, in a very large space, currently occupied by the Romeu Correia Municipal Forum Complex. Over many years, as a high school, it was the only school in the municipality to offer the complementary course that gave direct access to Universities.

Still called Liceu Nacional de Almada, the school abandoned the temporary pavilions in which it had been located for ten years, moving in October 1975 to the building it currently occupies.

In the 1978/79 academic year, this educational establishment was renamed Escola Secundária de Almada, a name that changed to its current name, Escola Secundária Fernão Mendes Pinto, in 1987/88.”

Heritales @ Bota Rasa – Évora – Portugal (18th of Abril 2024)

The resilience of associations: Heritales promotes the day of monuments and sites at Sociedade União Eborense, DIMS 2024

The associations were essential spaces for fostering relationships of sociability and fraternity and for building pathways for social and political negotiation (between progressive and conservative groups). All of them played an essential role in Portuguese society in the 19th and 20th centuries, both for the achievement of rights and for the promotion of personal, supportive and fraternal relationships. In the 21st century, these places of collectivity, whose forms of solidarity helped a large part of the community, are disappearing.

The risk of disappearing, together with the capacity for associative resilience in Portugal, will be the theme of the debate associated with Monuments and Sites Day, which will follow the screening of the documentary OS HERITAGES OF SOCIABILITY, I As associations in Évora, directed by Maria Zozaya and produced by CIDEHUS, which you can see below:

Cineclube Torres – Torres (Brasil)

The Cineclube Torres is a project that dates back to July 2011 with objectives such as: exhibition of audiovisual material; promotion of cultural events; carrying out cultural exchange; training actions; research, recovery and cataloging of audiovisual and photographic material relating to the city of Torres.

Established as a Non-Profit Association in 2012, it has been active since August 2011, organizing weekly meetings with authors and works from various cinematographic genres, primarily occupying public spaces, in an exercise of citizenship, and private spaces.

Exhibitions are also held for school audiences and for groups of children and adolescents in vulnerable situations, in public auditoriums and in municipal and state education units.

Cineclube Torres is a Culture Point approved (Living Culture Law) and Memory Point by IBRAM (Brazilian museum institute), registered with ProculturaRS as a State Cultural Producer, has regular registration with ANCINE and has already been included in international, state and municipal notices.

Heritales in the NEI European Reserchers Night

Selection of the Heritales Heritage Film Festival (2017-2023): sustainability and inclusion in short films and animations (France, Portugal, Iran). The session is made up of the following parts:

I- 22/22h30- 23h30 Screening of the Heritales films and animations in continuous screening blocks.
Activity to take place at night, projection in an outdoor space, on a wall in the Fish Market (Praça 1 de Maio).

II- 23h30-24h00 Debate. Session to raise awareness of the values of social inclusion, cultural diversity, the importance of respect for nature for sustainability and the maintenance of traditional forms of cultural heritage.
